چکیده مقاله:
Abstract Background & aim: Human papillomavirus (HPV) is the most common sexually transmitted disease that is major risk factor for the development of precancerous and cancerous cervical lesions. This study was planned to evaluate the prevalence of HPV and its genotypes in women with abnormal Pap smear who referred to shahid Mofateh clininc. Methods: A total of 67 cervical cytology sample including 51 ASCUS, 9 LSIL and 7 HSIL during 2015-2017 were selected. HPV genotyping was performed in the benefit of a Multiplex PCR- Reverse dot blot kit. Result: Overall, the HPV prevalence was 61.2%. Thirty six of participants (87.8%) were infected with high-risk HPV, twenty six (63.4%) with low-risk HPV and 2 (4.9%) with undetermined HPV type. The most common high-risk HPV type was HPV39 (43.9%) followed by HPV66 (31.7%), HPV31 (26.8%) and HPV18, 45 (14.6%). HPV16 detected only in 2 (4.9%) samples. Conclusion: Our results showed a high prevalence of HPV infection in women with abnormal Pap smear. In addition, different genotypes of this virus were detected compared to other studies in Iran. Evaluation of more samples from broader geographical areas is needed to elucidate the molecular epidemiology and also the genotypes of Human Papillomavirus (HPV).
